Status: Dead. Or fled. Possibly both, on a technicality. See The Contested Ending — this wiki has read the session log twice and still cannot honestly pick one. Affiliation: Enforcer in service to “Shy” (see Naming Note below), operating in the same orbit as Thack and the Church of the Yips. Designation: Tier-two boss. A Fused, referred to throughout the fight that made him famous as “the heavenly one.”
Overview
Veth showed up as backup muscle during Thack’s ambush on the party at Torin’s attempted public execution — floating, lance-armed, and unbothered, right up until Keth walked in wanting answers about his dead mentor Taszo. What followed was one of the longer single-target grudge matches this campaign has produced: a near-fatal Shardblade hit, a boastful claim of functional immortality, a running argument with Ravan about the ethics of working for tyrants, several minutes on fire, and — depending on which part of the transcript you trust — either a dramatic death or a full release with parting gifts. Genuinely, sincerely, both readings are supported by the record. This wiki has chosen to present both rather than pick a winner.
What isn’t in dispute: Veth was present at Taszo’s death and knows exactly who’s responsible, because he was standing right next to her when it happened.
Naming Note
The wiki’s existing entry for this NPC’s employer is spelled Shai. Every reference to her in this session’s transcript renders the name phonetically as “Shy.” Given that “Shai” and “Shy” are pronounced identically out loud, this is almost certainly the same person transcribed differently rather than a second, competing crime boss — but per house policy, this wiki is flagging the discrepancy rather than silently picking a spelling for you. Take it up with whoever’s doing the transcription.
Key Moments
The Duel With Keth
- Opened by needling Ravan mid-fight — “Did you think Thack was fooled by your little infiltration, little Parshman?” — revealing that Thack had known about Ravan’s undercover work inside the Church of the Yips the entire time and simply hadn’t cared.
- Took a devastating Shardblade strike from Keth hard enough to drop to one knee and crack his composure for the first time — then, rather than yield, doubled down: “Well, I hate to be the one to tell you, but if you kill me, I’ll be back in 10 days.” When Ravan pointed out he could apparently do this indefinitely and asked why he’d waste it working for “that idiot Thack,” Veth deflected with “I could ask you the same question. Why are you serving the humans?” — followed by pointedly needling Ravan about the human-given name “Robin,” a jab about identity that landed harder than the lance did.
- Grappled Torin at one point during the melee and, while restrained and later actively on fire, was overheard whispering into his ear on behalf of his mistress: “Where is Kai-El? Our Lady Shy wants to meet him.” Kael never got the invitation. He was already dead.
The Contested Ending
Two things happen in quick succession in the transcript, and this wiki cannot fully reconcile them:
- Reading one — the death. Keth lands a Devastating Blow on “the Heavenly One” — the same title used for Veth throughout the fight — driving a Shardblade through his neck. Dying, he looks up, grins, and says only “See you soon,” as his eyes burn out and his body drops to the floor. A genuinely great exit line, and a nice callback to the resurrection boast twenty minutes earlier.
- Reading two — the release. Minutes later, on the same wall, in the same fire, someone the table is still calling “Veth” is found alive, begging Keth to pull him free in exchange for information — and delivers it: that his mistress Shy is responsible for Taszo’s death (“Kael is the bastard that ruined our mistress’s life”), and that he genuinely doesn’t know her current whereabouts, which an Insight check confirms is the truth. Keth, satisfied and reportedly still furious, tells him to leave his equipment and run. Veth drops a sword, some armor, fifty marks, and a javelin, and does exactly that — last seen fleeing into the night, very much alive.
This wiki offers three theories, none of them confirmed: (1) the ten-day resurrection promise has a typo and he meant ten minutes, with impressively fast turnaround; (2) the party killed an unnamed mook mid-battle while the actual Veth survived elsewhere on the same wall; or (3) nobody at that table — ourselves very much included — ever fully tracked which of the several restrained, on-fire Fused stuck to that particular wall was actually Veth. Pick whichever theory lets you sleep at night. Update this page if the table ever settles it.
Relationships
- Shai — his mistress, called “Shy” throughout the session that made him famous. See Naming Note above.
- Taszo (deceased) — Veth was present at his death and confirms it was Shai’s own doing, not his; he was backup, not the blade.
- Kael (deceased) — the man Veth’s mistress apparently wanted delivered to her, whispered about mid-fight while Veth himself was on fire. The invitation went unanswered.
- Keth — dueled him nearly to the death (see above), then either finished the job or let him go, depending on which paragraph of this page you believe.
- Ravan — sparred with him verbally as much as physically; got needled about his own name and allegiances in the process.
- Thack — fellow boss-tier menace in the same ambush. Ravan, mid-fight, strongly implied Veth was capable of better company.
