Open Threads & Mysteries
The campaign does not tie off loose ends so much as let them dangle ominously until they’re ready to strangle someone. Here’s everything still hanging, updated through the two most recent sessions — Torin’s execution, escape, and First Ideal, and the Odium ambush that ended with Gavlin’s capture. Read it as a preview of upcoming problems, because that’s exactly what it is.
- Gavlin is in Odium’s custody. Sealed in a carapace cocoon and carried off by Ervel the instant the party’s defenses gave out. This is the single biggest open thread on the board right now — everything else on this list can wait; this one probably can’t.
- Who is Kyle? Asked after by name, unprompted, by Ervel — “are you not traveling with one named Kyle? We heard he likes dueling” — with Ravan deflecting rather than answering: “he won’t be joining us for the foreseeable future.” Separately, the GM has twice slipped and addressed Mel’s player as “Kyle” mid-session before self-correcting, and Torin once flatly told an interrogator “Kyle’s dead” under entirely different circumstances. This wiki has three unconnected Kyle-shaped puzzle pieces and no picture to assemble them into. See Mel’s page for the fullest treatment of the mystery.
- Odium wants fabrial knowledge, and he’s not being subtle about it. Ervel’s pitch to Gavlin — tutor us, name your price, live forever — came with the admission that “my kind has been gone for a while, but we’re back and we need to be caught up on some research.” Whatever Odium’s forces are actually building toward, fabrials are apparently part of it, and they now have an artifabrian in custody to ask.
- Thack is still out there, and now he’s better at escaping than the party is at cornering him. Personally tortured Torin at his own execution, then vanished into the crowd; resurfaced weeks later just long enough to slip out through a converted axehound den with roughly an hour’s head start. Separately, and unnervingly, Veth — “the Heavenly One,” the enforcer Keth dueled to a possibly-fatal, possibly-not standstill — boasted mid-fight that a killing blow wouldn’t even slow him down for more than ten days. Whether that claim was bravado, a real ability, or relevant to Thack at all is unconfirmed; this wiki is flagging it rather than assuming either of them can’t be killed.
- Taszo’s killer has a spelling problem and an outstanding debt. Confirmed by multiple sources as the woman the party already knew as Shai — except Session A’s transcript renders her name phonetically as “Shy” throughout, independently and repeatedly. Almost certainly the same person. Still at large. Keth is looking for her specifically, and has said as much to her own subordinate’s face.
- The Book of the Returned forgery — the fake text pointing Sebarial toward Shinovar is still out there, uncorrected. He’s dead now, so the question isn’t whether he finds out, it’s whether whoever inherits his mess does.
- Halidar & Melania — the two remaining Ghostbloods who killed Nucko’s parents are still unaccounted for, and as of his departure from the party, actively being hunted by the one person with thirty years of motive.
- Vesper’s hidden informant — somewhere in the War Camps, still stashed, sits the identity of Nucko’s parents’ killers. Nobody’s dug it up yet. Somebody should probably get on that.
- Torin & Liss — officially courting. The wiki has nothing sardonic to add here. Let them have this one.
- Jaro’s loyalties — last seen actively helping Sebarial. Sebarial is now a cognitive shadow trapped in a dagger. Where that leaves Jaro’s allegiances is, charitably, an open question.
- Kael’s death — a Third Ideal Radiant just passed into the Beyond. What that does to the party, and to Cadenza, has not remotely finished playing out.
- The Everstorm — was actively approaching. It does not care that the party is busy.
- Dahl / Nico — the twin impersonation scheme inside House Renmuri, and whatever Dahl actually wants out of The Diagram, remain entirely unresolved.
- Odium’s Perpendicularity — its real location on the Shattered Plains is still out there, and the man who was hunting it just got stabbed to death with a stolen Raysium dagger. Somebody’s going to go looking. Probably several somebodies. Given recent events, Odium’s own people may already know exactly where it is.
