Handsy (Hansy)
Status: Alive, recovered Bonded to: Kael
Overview
Kael’s axehound, present since near the start of the campaign, and proof that a dog can accumulate a stranger legend than most of the humans traveling with him. Handsy spent a good stretch of the story as a hostage — used as leverage against the party by Shai, then stolen outright by Thack, “the Muffin Man” — before that theft accidentally launched him into full religious stardom as “the Goodest Boy,” first of the Yips, worshipped in earnest by the Church of the Yips. Most dogs get a leash and a bowl. This one got a congregation.
Key Moments
- Grappled by a skyeel matriarch and hauled off to her nest early in the campaign; the party’s climb to retrieve him is what kicked off the Skyeel Matriarch fight in the first place.
- Bit a guard’s leg to help take down a whitespine during the campaign’s early days — team player, even before the sainthood.
- Bit a guard’s rear off entirely during the Vedenar dock chaos, earning himself an official confirmed kill and, presumably, several nightmares.
- Stolen from an axehound breeder’s shop — breeder killed, shop ransacked — with a note left behind promising he’d be taken to Vedenar. Escalated quickly from “dog theft” to “dog theft with itinerary.”
- A stained-glass window immortalizing him as “The Goodest Boy” survived a Church of the Yips chapel fire completely untouched, which the cult naturally read as a divine sign rather than, say, luck.
- Recovered by Sebarial and returned to the party at the final research outpost as part of his ultimatum — meaning the campaign’s final antagonist personally handled prisoner-of-war negotiations for a dog.
