Kharbranth
Type: Major city, recurring campaign hub Landmarks: The Conclave, the Button Museum (formerly), Rilano’s fabrial lab, Taravangian’s palace Regular haunt: The Glyphpool tavern Notable incident: Arson
Overview
Kharbranth shows up in this campaign’s history often enough to qualify as a second home, which says a lot about a city whose highlights include a burned-down museum, a palace vault heist, and a near-miss with a Shardbearer in the throne room. It’s home to the Conclave — the city’s library and seat of administration, for anyone who wanted Kharbranth to sound respectable for a paragraph — as well as Rilano’s fabrial lab and Taravangian’s palace, plus the Glyphpool tavern, a recurring meeting spot for the party whenever business brought them through.
The city’s single most infamous entry on this wiki, though, is the Button Museum — robbed blind and then set ablaze by Nucko and Theren in a job that started as reconnaissance in disguise and ended with a stolen artifact rumored to belong to Jezrien himself, roughly two hundred additional buttons, and an entire building on fire on the way out. The full, deeply unflattering account lives on Nucko’s page, under “The Lia Job,” and is worth the read.
Taravangian’s palace furnished the rest of Kharbranth’s résumé: a vault infiltration where the party turned up a copy of The Diagram, and a considerably tenser confrontation in the throne room itself, where the shardbearer Graves got his hands on Theren and very nearly didn’t let go. He did, eventually — Theren’s ending came from somewhere else, later — but it’s the kind of close call that earns a city its own file.
