Theren and Nucko once followed Jasnah and her ward, Shallan Devar in an attempt to give Theren a chance to ask for assistance from the Kholin family to help him restore his house. They followed her into a dark alleyway where Jasnah and her ward were attacked by men coming out of the shadow. Jasnah used surgebinding to turn the men into different essences - and this depraved act scared Nucko and Theren - so they didn’t end up talking to her there.
Later, Nucko, Theren, and Kael (under disguises created by Nucko’s illusions) tried to approach Jasnah in the Palanaeum. For simplicity’s sake here, let’s just say that conversation was an absolute disaster. Theren couldn’t seem to gather his thoughts, made horrible arguments, and quite frankly, creeped Jasnah out.
She had them escorted out by the conclave guards.
